State of the Computer Book Market

Ivan Moscoso writes on the Agile Ajax blog today, his a reaction to O’Reilly’s State of the Computer Book Market - The Languages post. I think it is dangerous to speculate on the popularity of a programming language based on book sales, but it does make for some interesting conversation. It is hard to argue against the fact that dynamic languages such as Ruby, Groovy, Python, etc… are gaining in popularity.

Usability and Interface Design Books

Too often, the usability of an application is either an after-thought or not considered at all. Smashing Magazine has a list of 10 recommended usability and interface design books. If you’re involved in the coding or design of user interfaces (web-based applications included), I would highly recommend picking up one or more of these.

Classic Books in Computer Science

The ACM has posted pdfs of classic “classic” Computer Science books online for free! Browsing through these, it is amazing how relevant this stuff still is today. I especially recommend the Dijkstra stuff. Definitely check these out.
