Bram Cohen of the Bit Torrent fame has published an article with pointers on how to become a great programmer. It certainly isn’t everything you need to know to become a great programmer, but it is a good start. I particularly like his emphasis on the design and architecture of programs. Anybody can be taught to write code in language x, but it takes some real talent and practice to architect a loosely-coupled, elegant system.
